DESCRIPTION AND IMPACT
Worldwide Education Fund of the Dallas Foundation collaborated with “Partner+Transfers” a local NGO to prepare college-bound students to improve their IELTS scores. This project was based in Khorog town. 20 students were selected through an assessment test and they met 5 days a week for the class. The course provided a balanced program, focusing on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing for IELTS.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English language test. It opens doors to opportunity and people who take IELTS can study, work and live in any part of the world.
Khorog town in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is geographically isolated region and cuts off from the rest of Tajikistan for the most part of the year because of the harsh weather. The area lacks academies that offer IELTS preparation courses. The only place where such courses are offered is Dushanbe. Students from GBAO cannot afford to go there and be part of such courses because of the lack of financial means. This advanced English Language Course helped the students to prepare for IELTS exam in GBAO on their doorstep.
