Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), Dolomuch Lower Chitral, Pakistan
The Early Childhood Learning Center initiative in Chitral, launched by the Worldwide Education Fund (WEF), USA in collaboration with the Foundation to Empower Students (FES), Pakistan is providing transformative early education opportunities for young children in the region. This project addresses the pressing need for accessible, high-quality early learning spaces that lay a strong foundation for lifelong success.
Each ECLC offers a safe, joyful, and nurturing environment for children aged 3 to 5, fostering cognitive, emotional, and social development through Montessori-based, play-centered learning activities. With the capacity to serve 25–35 children per center, these spaces encourage curiosity, confidence, and creativity from an early age.
A central pillar of the ECLC program is the empowerment of local educators. The initiative currently employs 11 Montessori-trained teachers who guide children’s growth with care and expertise. WEF and FES also partner with leading training organizations to ensure that teachers receive continuous professional development, building sustainable local capacity and ensuring the long-term success of the program.

Current Impact of Early Childhood Learning Centers in Chitral, Pakistan
At present, 10 ECLCs are operating in Lower Chitral and 1 ECLC in upper Chitral, serving approximately 400 children and providing them with structured, supportive learning environments that were previously unavailable in the region. The program not only transforms children’s educational experiences but also uplifts the wider community by creating professional pathways for local teachers.
Looking ahead, WEF and FES plan to establish 25 additional centers by September 2025, with the ultimate goal of 100 centers by the end of 2027. This growth will enable nearly 3,000 children each year to benefit from quality early education while expanding professional development opportunities to over 100 educators. By combining innovative learning environments with dedicated teacher support, the ECLC initiative is creating lasting change — shaping a brighter, more equitable future for the children of Chitral.
