Project Description:

The General ESL (English as a Second Language) and the EAP (English for Academic Purposes) programs by Global Virtual School are dedicated to enhancing access to and refining English-language skills training in some of the most economically disadvantaged and underserved regions worldwide. In these areas, acquiring proficient English-language skills serves as a means to break the cycle of generational poverty. The program actively advocates for gender equality, maintaining an admission policy that ensures a fifty-percent female representation in every learning space.

Furthermore, the program actively cultivates Global Competence by urging learners, even in remote villages, to challenge themselves in mastering language proficiency and achieving a native-speaker level of English. The trusted Cambridge IGCSE curriculum supports students in advancing their English proficiency to an advanced level, equipping them for successful careers or further education. Through the utilization of past papers, students undergo assessments to ensure they are aligned with global standards and comparable to their peers worldwide.

Global Virtual School (GVS) offers learners a non-traditional classroom setting, fostering the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are not typically emphasized in traditional educational settings but are highly valued in the job market. The youth-to-youth connection establishes a supportive learning atmosphere, enhancing learner confidence.

Current Impact: In collaboration with partners like the US State Department and University of Central Asia, GVS connects volunteer-teachers with eager learners in real-time virtual classrooms. GVS aims to graduate over 5,000 proficient English speakers by 2025, empowering them to escape generational poverty. At present, GVS has significant impact in 14 countries and 30 centers where it equips over 1300 students with the language skills needed to pursue higher education, vocational training, and improved career prospects.
