Description and Impact:
The WEF-VT Scholars Program at Emeralde, an initiative of the WEF Student Ambassador Association (ISAA), was launched in October 2015. The project is being undertaken in partnership with the Foundation to Support Education Worldwide (FSEW), Emeralde International Institute of Hair and Beauty, and FEEB Unlimited.
Given the growing demand of bright candidates with vocational and technical skills training, the WEF-VT Scholars Program at Emeralde provided successful recipients with a full scholarship to study at the Mariam Zaveri’s Emeralde International Institute of Hair and Beauty and complete a 6-month professional course in hair and beauty. Students also had the opportunity to complete a certification in the area of skin-peel technology. The candidates were selected from the suburban areas of the metropolitan city of Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra and from a rural area of the state of Gujarat
This program is expected to have a life-changing impact on the students. This program enabled young girls to not only begin earning for themselves and their families, but also equipped them with the foundational skills in the area of hair and beauty that will stay with them for a lifetime. With a small financial investment, we are able to provide a young girl a trampoline with which she can escape the cycle of generational poverty. At the end of the program each candidate was gifted by the Worldwide Education Fund, a token kit of tools of the trade to help launch her career.
All the students have graduated and WEF congratulates them on successful graduation. Some of the graduates have already been selected to work as a beautician in local parlors.
