Location: Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Status: Active

Project Description:

Worldwide Education Fund (WEF) of The Dallas Foundation in collaboration with The Foundation to Empower Students (FES) Pakistan, and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Elementary and Secondary Education Department, is leading an innovative educational initiative in Chitral. The “Learning Centers: Integrating Early Childhood Development and Technology-Assisted English Language Labs” project is designed to bridge critical educational gaps by providing cutting-edge learning environments in government schools. These centers offer dynamic, technology-equipped spaces tailored to Early Childhood Development (ECD) and English language proficiency, aimed at children aged 3-5 and primary students.

The Learning Centers are furnished with modern technology, comfortable furniture, and stimulating materials for ECD, creating a nurturing environment that fosters both cognitive and emotional growth in young learners. Mornings are dedicated to ECD programs, while the afternoons transform the centers into English Language Labs, delivering specialized training to students from grades 1 to 5.

A vital aspect of the initiative is empowering local teachers through specialized training programs in collaboration with the Aga Khan University Professional Development Center. Educators are equipped with the necessary skills to provide high-quality ECD and language education, ensuring the sustainability of the program’s impact.

With a focus on student learning and teacher development, this transformative initiative aims to scale its reach beyond, Chitral, fostering academic excellence and equal opportunities for students in underserved regions.

Current Impact:

Since its launch, the Learning Centers initiative has made a significant impact, directly benefiting over 2,000 students across government primary schools in Chitral. These centers have provided a safe and supportive educational environment, offering critical ECD and English language training. The project has empowered 144 teachers and 30 ECD educators with innovative teaching strategies, ensuring the delivery of quality education. Additionally, the program supports 2 managers and 8 interns, fostering professional growth and leadership within the community.

By addressing the educational needs of children in remote areas, this initiative is playing a pivotal role in reducing the gap between private and government schools, promoting a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape in Chitral.
