Living in a distant mountainous region, I had always bigger and exciting dreams about life and career. And I knew from the very beginning that education is the only ‘option’ for a village girl in Gilgit, an economically and socially disadvantaged region of Pakistan. A dream to grow academically and professionally and above all, a dream to see the world and study form abroad. My dreams came true when WEF selected me for an MBA in Technology Management at Herzing University, Atlanta, USA.
Gilgit, my home town, is an important strategic region in Pakistan which is supposed to play a crucial and pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country in near future. With the motivation to take benefit from the locally available natural resources and to translate the potential into productivity I became a part of the project so that I could acquaint myself with the business and technology management skills. It will ultimately help me to achieve my dream of eventually becoming an entrepreneur by establishing my own business in my home town where ‘women in business’ is still considered to be a taboo.
The journey so far has been full of motivation, inspiration and priceless learning experiences. It has not only opened new business horizons but it has also helped to hone my decision making, leadership and managerial skills.
The prime motive behind studying this degree is to get deeper and pragmatic understanding of the business and technology management at first, and then to employ business strategies to provide solutions in an economic, environmental and societal context. Moreover, the objectives include understanding of the scientific research, service to society, leadership and lifelong learning required to further career aspirations.
Undoubtedly, Gilgit-Baltistan is blessed with the enormous potentials in natural resources, but it unfortunately lacks novelty in its utilization. Lack of skilled personnel and unfamiliarity with business and technological trends have obstructed the way to prosperity and there exists a crucial need of qualified individuals with entrepreneurial ambitions. This situation has inspired me to look outside my field of expertise, which is Information technology, and expose myself to business and technology management together. My academic interest in business studies aims to get an insight of the business administration and then to employ business strategies to improve the socioeconomic development of the society. Also, to improve the quality of life and living standards of the people while creating more and more business opportunities to them.
